Each September, communities across the country come together to celebrate National Recovery Month—a time to honor the strength of individuals in recovery, raise awareness about substance use disorder, and reduce the stigma that too often keeps people from seeking help. At Recovery Action Network of Michigan (RANMI), we believe recovery is possible for everyone, and we are proud to walk alongside individuals and families in our community as they find hope and healing.
Our Recovery Community Center, which opened earlier this year, has quickly become a hub for connection and support. We offer free peer-led groups, overdose prevention and Narcan distribution, life skills workshops, and sober social activities that help people stay connected and engaged. Every program, event, and conversation makes a difference. By showing up together, we remind our neighbors that recovery is not just possible—it’s happening every day, right here in Wayne County.
One of the highlights of this Recovery Month is our Recovery Rocks! Battle of the Bands 🎸, happening on Thursday, September 18th, from 6–10pm at the Token Lounge in Westland. In collaboration with Hegira Health, Inc., this free event is open to ages 18 and up and will feature:
- Local recovery bands rocking the stage
- Mocktails, food, and community resource tables
- A fun, sober environment where everyone is welcome
- Special perk: the first 100 people to pre-register will receive free food and mocktail tickets!
This event isn’t just about music—it’s about connection, hope, and reducing stigma by celebrating the joy and creativity that thrives in recovery. Together, we can change the conversation around substance use and continue building a community where recovery is embraced, supported, and celebrated.
We invite you to join us at the Battle of the Bands and throughout the month of September as we shine a spotlight on recovery. Check out the flyer below for details and help us spread the word—because recovery doesn’t just heal, it rocks!
